My Teaching Philosophy Statement

My teaching philosophy is comprised of three fundamental aspects of my teaching.

- The first is by making an effort to know my students how they are known, how they know themselves and how they know the world. Knowing my students is the very fabric of creating an equitable learning experience for all.

- The second is to listen. Each student has a voice, what they say matters and those who listen will offer them a space that feels safe and authentic. Students require a space that encourages them to take academic risks and once they make those risks they find their voice.

- The third is to activate students as resources for their own learning. Instead of being the "sage on the stage," I want students to have the opportunity to become experts of their own. In group work, students can share knowledge to help their classmates and gain assistance from the class by sharing group responsibility, practicing reciprocal teaching in seminar-based lessons, or conducting problem solving in groups. Students need to be active participants in the classroom, not just listeners.

My goal, overall, is to know my students, listen to them and encourage their participation in order to guaruntee their confidence, feeling of safety and learning success!
